He studied Medicine at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, where he graduated in 1982.
In 1982 he entered by competitive examinations at the Institut Dexeus of Barcelona where he studied as a resident doctor the specialty of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
He was part of the faculty members of Instituto Dexeus until 1990, participating actively in the Human Reproduction Unit. In 1984 he assisted the birth of the first child by In Vitro Fertilization techniques in Spain.
In 1990 he moved to Galicia as Responsible for the creation of the first In Vitro Fertilization laboratory in Vigo (Pontevedra) where the first baby was born by IVF techniques in 1991 and where he remained until 2003.
